The quality of healthcare in the United States seems to be nosediving, as latest polls indicate increasing levels of dissatisfaction among Americans. For the first time in Gallup’s two-decade trend, less than half of Americans are complimentary about the quality of U.S. healthcare, with an increasing percentage of people rating it as “poor.”

With increasing inflation, health insurance premiums in the United States have also been northward bound, which clearly explains why employees consider their health coverage a crucial determinant of their tenure at work. According to a recent whitepaper by a benefits, human resources, and compliance management services company, employee tenure nearly doubles when easy, affordable health plans are offered.

Health insurance coverage does not necessarily translate to high-quality care and better health, nor does it protect insured members from experiencing financial strains. Unfortunately, despite the rising healthcare costs, Americans are unable to access the advantages of advanced personalized precision medicine, which goes beyond the scope of basic standard of care to help with overall holistic recovery.

Enrollment into an employer-sponsored health insurance (ESI) plan does not guarantee access to equal quality of care in the U.S. health care system. With complex cost-sharing mechanisms like high deductibles and out-of-pocket costs, many employees and their dependents are left with limited opportunities to truly improve their health conditions and progress towards better health.

Despite the numerous advancements in the field of healthcare technology, most Americans are unable to experience the benefits of this progress in the U.S. healthcare system. More than 50 percent Americans think that the healthcare system in the United States of America has major problems, while 81 percent are dissatisfied with the total cost of healthcare in this country.

Replacing an employee who quit an organization can be as expensive as one-half to two times the employee’s annual salary, and with every employee turnover, employers pay a heavy price, much more than just the costs associated with re-filling the vacant position. Factors like company culture and employee morale may also be affected, which in turn threatens to impact their productivity and your bottom line.

With employers breaking away from their dependence on standard insurance providers and transitioning to self-funding their health plans, employees can capitalize on the opportunity to access advanced preventive care while utilizing other cost-saving measures. In self-funded health insurance plans, employers ditch the ever-increasing premiums paid to insurance providers, as they themselves assume the responsibility of paying claims filed by employees and health care providers.
